Francis Rossi releases his new single ‘Scary Mary’ through earMUSIC.
Today sees the release of Francis Rossi’s fascinating song collection ‘The Way We Were Vol. 1’. Already today he is launching ‘Scary Mary’, one of the five previously unreleased songs that have never been before heard outside the studio.
Francis Rossi says, “I have always called Bob’s wife ‘Mary’. I’m not actually frightened of her; she’s lovely. I always get on with her and make her laugh. This song never got released; it just sat on a multitrack until I was able to transfer it onto digital. The chorus really works, and the record label certainly seem to like it! I am honestly not sure how I feel about this one. Bob loves it, because he loves to wind his wife up! It would be great if the fans like it too – and I think it deserves a place here.”
The 17-track album “The Way We Were Vol. 1” is an illuminating collection of previously unreleased demo recordings, all taken from his own personal archive, and written by the powerhouse songwriting team of Francis Rossi and Bob Young. Five songs are previously unreleased, whilst others went on to appear on a Status Quo or Francis Rossi album. These early versions capture the purity of the initial ideas and provide a fascinating window onto the creative process that they then underwent, as they evolved into a final version.
‘The Way We Were Vol. 1’ will be released on May 2nd, 2025 via earMUSIC on CD, 2LP and Digital formats and features songs that went on to appear on a series of Status Quo albums: 2002’s ‘Heavy Traffic’, 2005’s ‘The Party Ain’t Over Yet’, 2004’s ‘XS All Areas’, ‘In Search Of The Fourth Chord’ (2007), and Francis’ well-received second solo album of 2010 ‘One Step At A Time’.
